UNITED STATES NOTES - Are notes that are also called 'Legal Tender' and were issued from $1 to $10,000 in both large and small sizes. These were first authorized for issue in 1862 and are still current today...but none have been issued since 1969. The small size notes are more common and have red serial numbers and seal along with 'United States Note' above the face of the note.
BATTLESHIP NOTE - This is a nickname for a series 1918 $2 Federal Reserve Bank Note with an image of a battleship printed on the back.
BISON NOTE - This is a nickname for a $10 Series of 1901. This is a Legal Tender Note with a resident of the New York City-Central Park Zoo (Black Diamond/ Bison) that is depicted on the note.

COIN NOTES - Are notes that are redeemable in silver or gold coin. Also called 'Treasury Notes'  these were issued from 1890 to1891 in $1 to $1,000 denominations.

PORTHOLE NOTE - This is a trade nickname for a series 1923 $5 Silver Certificate. This note has a portrait of Abraham Lincoln surrounded in a bold frame which resembles a ship's porthole.

STAR NOTES - Are notes that can be both large-size or small-size notes from 1908 to date that have a star next the serial number. When a defective note is found and then destroyed these replacement notes are made to take their place.

RADAR NOTES - Or 'Mirror Notes' are notes that the serial numbers can be read forward or backward and they read the same.  For Example (01233210). These notes are very rare and hard to find.

REPEATER NOTES - Are notes that the serial numbers repeat.  For Example (12341234). These notes are also rare and hard to find.
